Happy Republic Day, India!

Today is the 63rd Republic Day for India. Republic Day commemorates the date (Jan 26, 1950) on which the Constitution of India came into force replacing the Government of India Act 1935 as the governing document of the country. They had parades and big celebrations in the capital city of New Delhi. Our city probably has some celebrating up on the Ridge, but we're staying home.

Lady read where even dogs were included:
"Every dog has its day", so goes the proverbial saying and though the sniffing dogs are omnipresent at the Parade, forming part of the Delhi Police Bomb Disposal Squad and NSG too relying on man’s best friend to secure the Rajpath, this year’s Parade gave them their due, with the dogs displaying their skills in a lotus formation and a grand salute by the leader sitting on a tableau of the Army’s Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC)[bellvision.com]

So, here's to all the working dogs in India. I hope you get good treats and good treatment for all you do for your country!

In Trouble Again

Lady knows I love cheese. She had six small chunks to have with her soup. I waited patiently. She gave me one chunk. Then she turned her back for a second. When she turned back around she discovered someone had eaten ALL of the cheese! Of course, I got blamed. Where are the kids when you need them? Lady says if I get loose motion it will serve me right! Sorry, Lady!

Beheaded BoBo

So, I told you it's been cold here. A guy's got to get his exercise. The kids came over to play with me and kept throwing my BoBo. I guess I played a little rough.
It's still snowing, then raining. It's cold on my paws, though. No, I don't wear booties -my nails are too long. I still like going out and running with Lady, well, she walks cuz her legs are so long.

Sorry, Lady

I just couldn't help it! I tried to get you going and take me outside. You wondered why I was in such a hurry. Guess you found out. I am sooooooo embarrassed! Something did NOT agree with me and there was a "rumbly in my tumbly," as Winnie the Pooh says (and I was wearing my Pooh coat). I just couldn't quite make it. I'm so sorry. You didn't really like that green mat anyway, and and and it just sorta blends in, doesn't it? And I am so sorry about the smell. Why don't we just hang out outside in the sunshine today? Sounds good to me!

 Pearly gets a new coat.
 This is our shopping street.
Pearly and Christy, my dear friends. I stay with them at the Home when Lady travels. Since they are out of school now, they are coming to play with me a lot these days.
Looking down at the traffic but the shopping street.
Lady and the girls had to wait till the road was clear before they could go home. I was waiting and waiting for them, but they got home safely. Lady said she thought they might have to spend the night when the road closed! I was happy to see them. I took Lady out for a brisk walk. Our road was all icy.
Today it was sunny and helped to melt some of the snow.

Happy Birthday Lady!

We had a bit more snow last night, but mostly all the old snow froze. The street was all icy. It made walking much more difficult. I had a hard time keeping Lady from slipping. I have to help her you know because she is getting OLD er.  I offered her some of my chow for breakfast but she didn't want it. Jing called Lady at 6:45 am from Bangalore! I kept snoozing. Then Grandpa and Grandma called. Lady opened her presents as they looked on by Skype.  Phone's been ringing all day. Christy, Pearly, and Ashish came and we all played games. Well, they fussed at me because I kept sitting on the cards or knocking over their pile. Lady took the three kids out to lunch. Pearly had chicken chow mein and brought me back some! Later, Aunty brought dinner and presents! Christy even had one for me! Earlier Lady gave me a bone for her birthday. I helped Lady open her gifts. It was a fun day! I'll post pictures tomorrow.
 I got a cow!

SNOW

We woke up this morning and everything was white!

The sky was blue and it was sunny!

 Well, here I go!

 Trying to find smells!

 Here's a place!

Lady made a snow dog.
She took me out a couple of times before it got really yucky and cold with no sun. I had to wear a sweater and a coat. I got wet. We went back inside and huddled by the gas heater because the power has been out all day! Now it's back on so I can post.

Wet Stuff

Rain. Snow.
Rain. Snow.
Flakes are dancing; drip drops flow.
Snow. Rain. Snow. Rain.
Not quite cold enough to freeze it again.
Rain. Snow. Rain. Snow.
Squishes beneath my paws just so.
Snow. Rain. Snow. Rain.
Quickly pee and poo-back inside again.
Where do the monkeys go?
Where are street dogs hiding?
How can birds still fly
While I'm inside residing?
More snow. More snow.
I sink in the mush, in the slush. I go
Back inside. Back inside
By the heater in my blankie
I'll abide.

New Coat

Lady found me a new coat. Choices of color were limited. I would not have chosen purple!

Okay, it's a little big, and a lot purple, but it's warm. It cost Lady $6.
This one fits perfectly (was made for me), is water resistant on the outside, and is navy and red -good colors for me. More masculine than purple. This one cost $43. And that's before shipping.
On Lady's budget, I'll be happy with the purple one. I do have a variety of coats to wear. My raincoat is wearing out, though. Lady's going to look in New Delhi for a new one. The specialty shop in the big mall has some, but they are very expensive! She bought my old one in Hong Kong in 2004! Told ya it was getting old.
Well, it didn't snow here today. It did snow higher up on the mountains. Lady took a couple of kids from the home on a hike to see the snow. Monkeys stole her chips. She thought Ashish was pulling on her leg, but it was a large monkey! They stole Pearly's bag with her coat and hat in it. A man had to retrieve it. They just wanted the chips. There are thousands of monkeys up on that mountain, and they can be quite aggressive. They steal stuff.
I hope it doesn't snow. It gets all slushy and I don't like to go out in it.

Cold, No Snow

We're trying to stay warm by the heater! I don't want to get out of the warm bed. Lady is putting layers on me because I am still cold. I need a heavier jacket. The street dogs all have long thick furry coats to keep them warm. And they are big. It is supposed to snow tomorrow. I guess they'll find some dirt to stay warm in. We've just been resting up from all our New year's activities. And Lady has been cleaning and organizing and cleaning and organizing. I just try to stay out of the way. Guess I better go outside and take care of business.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AUNTY JEANO!

I've been hearing about you, Aunty Jeano all my life. You are one of Lady's most favorite people and best friends in the whole world. That's saying a lot, because we have friends all over the world.  You and Lady used to teach together in FL but you were friends long before you were ever in the same school. Lady says you were involved in politics and community relations together. You both believed in trying to get the best education available for ALL kids. Lady says you are a terrific teacher, loved by so many, and missed by the school since your retirement. And now, you're preachin' and teachin' in this next season of your life.
Lady told me about Amaretto, your beloved Golden Retriever, and how her precious parakeet Boscoe, was laid to rest by her after being in Lady's life 13 years. That was before me. Lady told me how she has called you from all over the world, and you always know what to say to her when she is hitting that cultural wall. She called you from Germany, from China, from India, and you were always there for her. You are Lady's rock. I've only seen you on Skype, but if you were here, I'd give you lots and lots of licks, because you mean so much to Lady. You've been friends almost 30 years! She loves and adores your human kids, and so appreciates the friendship (tolerance) of your husband, Gary.
Lady and I hope 2012 is your best year yet. She's telling me about all the birthdays you have celebrated together because your birthdays are close. We wish you could be here for Lady's! I really hope you get a new furend in your life -maybe a cute little weinie dog like me! And would you please make it a female???
Much love to you, Aunty Jeano!

Happy New Year!!!

I spent the last hours of 2011 playing with all my toys!
Lady went to a New Year's Eve prayer meeting on the Ridge. Lady saw TONS of people on Mall Road.
 The sun setting on 2011.
We went to the Children's Home for a special gathering. It's my second home.
I stayed all warm and cozy in my blankie by the heater. 2012 is here!!
Happy New Year my furends and human friends!

Bye Bye, 2011

Whew! I've been busy taking care of Lady, putting away Christmas, and organizing all my new toys. Lady is a bit reflective today. So, I am too. We are BOTH so thankful my back troubles of 2011 are history, and I am doing fine. We are so thankful to be here in the foothills of the Himalayas, even though it is a bit cold! Lady's is thankful she got to g to the states to visit my grandparents and her friends. I am thankful for Grace Home, where I go when she leaves. We have good friends here who care about us. We have blogger friends who read our ramblings and encourage us. We have a God who loves us. We are blessed.
I can tell you I am NOT looking forward to the inevitable fireworks that will take place, but I am looking forward to another year with Lady, and another year of sharing my adventures with you!

Takin' Care of Lady

Lady's sick today. I'm sticking close, until she runs from the room. And she's got a bad cold and sneezes a lot. Christy and Pearly came to take me out. They brought Lady some hot and sour soup. They also played catch with me and tug-o-war. I won. Our helper showed up today after being a no show yesterday. Lady was NOT happy with her, but soon got over it when she gave her a back massage with pain cream! We've got two heaters going because it is so cold in here. Well, I've got to go help Lady stay warm.

More Gifts!!!

Lady just got back from the post office to pick up two packages. One was from my human grandparents in Florida. She sent me another squeaky chew toy and TWO bags of treats! I had fun opening more packages! Lady got some new slipper socks, her favorite Mount Olive baby dill pickles, and dark chocolate m&ms! She's happy! She is playing with her new toy -a Kindle Touch that my uncle and aunt in GA sent her. So, we are both playing with our new toys and enjoying our treats! Thank you, Grandma and Grandpa! Oh Happy Day!!!
