Back in the Home

Well, Pearly, Evangeline, Emman and Jevan came to pick me up early this morning. I should have known something was up when I saw the suitcase on the bed. I didn't see Lady pack my stuff. I was happy to see the kids. Well, not as excited as I get when I see Lady. She packed my gauze and tape, my cheese and feel-better pills, my blankets, my chow bucket, my coats, and my bowls. Yep. Takes a lot of stuff for a sleepover.
Lady and I are anxiously awaiting the arrival of my wheels. I am still having a hard time. Lady said she'd be back next Sunday, and maybe my wheels would be here, too! I'm not sure what to expect, but Lady says we'll be able to take long walks again, and I won't hurt so bad. Any other handi-capable dogs have any advice for me?

Marley needs back surgery. He has a disc that is puuting pressure on a nerve causing him pain. My Millie had a disc almost rupture & she had emergency surgery @ Oklahoma State University Vet Med Teaching Hospital. She recovered well to about 85%. Check into this for Marley it would improve his quality of life (no pain). Email me if you want more info.

  2. Glad to hear you've been reunited with Lady, and best of luck to you, Marley! My wife and I (and our dachshund, Frankie) hope your wheels will help you recover, enough so that you don't require surgery.

    Take care!

Not sure if you can find this where you are at, but an ace bandage (the stretchy one), about 4" wide works as a sling. When my doxie went down, we would use that as a sling, to walk her. this way she could walk around, sniff, do her business without dragging her legs around. And it saved us from back pain!

You would place it as close to the back legs as you could. I am pretty short, so I only needed one, but you may need two, sewn together. We got the idea after trying towel walking and finding that too bulky.

Check Abledogs, I believe they are on Yahoo. It's a good group for handicapped dogs.

We also massaged Mandys legs and moved them twice a day for 20 minutes to keep up muscle tone. And we would fill up the tub, with just enought water to reach cover her sternum and let her walk around in there, good practice for her.

    Wishing you lots of luck!

  5. Thanks, Raquel. A friend of Lady's suggested that and is sending the ace bandages to us! And I have a tub -it's pink.
